In this body of work, I paint imagined women who embody quiet resilience. Each figure is rendered in a restrained palette of white and Payne’s gray, allowing gesture and presence to carry the emotional weight of the painting. The paintings are set against expansive floral backgrounds with most of the women holding animals—a rabbit, a swan, a cockatoo—or tending to quiet acts such as mending a quilt. These gestures of care suggest tenderness, responsibility, and strength. Though the figures are not portraits of specific individuals, they reflect a familiar spirit: women who endure, nurture, and repair. The limited palette removes distraction, focusing attention on the relationship between the figure and what she gently holds.

The smaller works are from my studies which I have scanned, printed, and layered on wood panels with paper and encaustic wax. The end result is a beautiful final painting rich with texture.
