“Spear of strength”
Her name says so much about her personality. As a shrimp boat captain, Gertie never lets the male captains give her grief and she is sure to pull in the biggest load of the day. She learned the ways of the sea from her Grandfather Paddy. Paddy always took her with him as a little girl and taught her as she would a grandson.
